now what is going on. why was this book so good. one of my favs in AP lit so far. the writing was unique, and thank god for the audiobook, but it was beautiful and poetic and the ending was hopeful and still tore me apart. im crying over this shit. the depictions of all the characters really reflect the time and it was both enlightening and heartbreaking. i looved janie- what a strong woman mc.
beautiful book. would recommend

This was my fourth time reading this book, but having the audio read by Ruby Dee made the book seem new and I loved every moment.

I read this book as a read along although I had intended to read it for many years. The story of Janie and her life in Florida, with her grandmother and three husbands, to Eatonville and the Everglades, is beautifully written and highly readable, but also difficult to read in that even though it was 1937 some things have not changed.  The prose was beautiful and her use of metaphor was amazing.

Lyrical and reflective, and aside from the dialect in the dialogue (which I could get used to), I found that the book was quite approachable and accessible for a classic novel.
