The ending was a bit of a let down, but I enjoyed the journey.

Wow this book was something else! Not saying this cause I know and have worked with Hannah but this was such a solid debut! She knows how to be so descriptive in a way that is not too much but just enough to give you an image in your head perfectly. She captured the atmosphere so well and told a really good story. I’m so excited to see what Hannah puts out next!

This book is different than what I usually pick up, I’m glad I gave it a try, but it didn’t convince me to become a mystery reader or to look forward to another book by Hannah Morrissey. I appreciate Morrissey’s personal journey in writing her first book as it’s played out in the character of Hazel, and kudos to her for just writing what she knows!

HELLO, TRANSCRIBER was a very pleasant surprise! I went in completely blind and wasn't sure what to expect.

My thoughts:
-police procedural with some romance
-heavy subject matter
-wintery setting in Wisconsin
-Kole <3

Really really enjoyed HELLO, TRANSCRIBER. It reminded me of why I enjoy reading books like this and this one had it all - a little mystery, a little romance and a little family drama! Thank you to Minotaur Books for my copy - this one is out November 30th!

This book has a ton of trigger warnings - DM me if you want them before you read!

I was so excited for a transcription-focused thriller but nothing about the description with "her neighbor confesses to hiding the body of an overdose victim in a dumpster" from the author/publisher mentions that the death is of a 9-year-old boy. If you can handle that, the rest of the novel is fairly good but not the best.

Thanks to #NetGalley for the ARC of #HelloTranscriber in exchange for my honest review.

First off, I’m a Wisconsinite so one of my favorite things was that this story was set in a WI town. I also loved that the author drew on her own personal experience as a police transcriber.

Hazel Greenlee works the night shift as a police transcriber, where she listens to detectives detail horrifying events in Black Harbor. She becomes invested in one of the crimes that she transcribes and finds herself captivated by detective Nikolai Kole.

Hannah Morrissey’s debut is impressive — full of mystery and suspense. The story is a slow-burn, but I was hooked from the start. The characters are all troubled and full of secrets. Hello, Transcriber is a propulsive, atmospheric debut perfect for suspense lovers.

3.5 Stars - I was totally engrossed in this book, I couldn't stop listening but the ending was lackluster for me. I guess I was hoping for something more outrageous or twisty. I thought the narrator blew this out of the park though, making me honestly think Cole was a different person so I'll be looking to see if the narrator has other books.

Let me tell you this, the author has the sexiest style ever. So good. The book isn't really a romance, but even the tiniest scenes are so good.

The mystery sucks, though. I was so uninterested. The ending was a bit underwhelming, too.

All in all, the style is great, the content isn't.

This is marketed as a mystery/thriller but it is much more of a (dull) romance.
