this was so ???? i loved it so much, i read it basically in one sitting. i wasn't really sure what to expect going into it honestly, like maybe a little cult-y weirdness but it defiantly surpassed that. everything that happened was just so unexpected, especially in part three. i adored this and would recommend it to anyone who likes weird literature

This was such a bizarre read, and I’m sure I’ll be mulling it over for quite some time. Mona Awad is a new read for me, and while I appreciate the creative liberties with the writing style, I don’t know that her writing is for me. The concept of this book was great - mean girls meets Frankenstein, but the execution wasn’t to my liking. The story is mostly dialogue, but the reader is unaware whether the main character is speaking or thinking, and who is replying to her thoughts/statements. This would be a tremendous film, but the story lacked character depth and description for me. As a reader, you’re very in the dark as to what is happening with the narrator and what is reality (granted, that is the point, especially when describing the immersion in the cult). While it was a weird story, I did enjoy it. This is a perfect Halloween-time read, and I enjoyed the creepy aspects of the story. The whole story feels like a fever dream, and you feel like you’re taking on the hazy understanding of the main character.
Spoiler While I anticipated many aspects of the conclusion of the book, the final pages will certainly keep me thinking about what was truly reality for the character in the story.
As a whole, I’m glad I picked this book up for the fall season and enjoyed my experience.

I feel like the concept of this book and the writing itself was very interesting. And I love reading the different ways people interpret the ending and the meaning of the story. From the beginning it had me hooked and I really enjoyed it. I think the book was supposed to end and leave you guessing but I wish it would have wrapped it up a little bit better for me though.

Hahaha what the fuck did I just read

At times I loved this, at times I hated this, and mostly I just didn't want to pick it back up to keep reading. But it was weirdly compelling (emphasis on the weird), and the end really made it for me.
