This is the first fantasy novel that I’ve read in a while which truly held my interest. In fact, i couldn’t put it down. It was not derivative, which in all honesty, I expected it to be. It’s written in an extremely accessible way; intelligent with well-developed cultures, languages, and history, but without being pretentious, confusing, or convoluted. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read the others in the series.

Good. Thought it was missing something. Will continue series regardless.

This book should have 3,5 stars. After my previous update, it certainly went downhill during the whole middle third of the book and took up again in the last thrid. The thing that really bothers me is that there's almost none character development after he enters the university. Several things happens to the protagonist, but you get to see almost any reaction, all maters just the moment is happening and that's it, I hope that we can see the consequences in the next book, otherwise I'll be rather disappointed.
Beside the flaws that all the other readers mention, the book is fun, really light and fast to read. Perfect for a summer vacations reading.

Read this for a second time, and it's just as amazing as the first time. There's so many little things I don't remember or things I missed, the second read-through was amazing. I'm quite sure by the time the third book is published (... has to be written first, smh) I would have read it a third or fourth time. This book got me back into reading years ago and it has only inspired me more. Can't wait to reread book two at some point.
