I always enjoy Coehlo's books. As always it is a simple and interesting story of good vs. evil. A stranger comes to a small town and giving them a tempting offer. The towns people and stranger are faced with dealing with life, death and fear.

If I could give this book 0/5 stars I would. It's pretty much 150 pages of philosophical questions with virtually no plot. I thought it was dreadfully boring. I don't read to find deep spiritual meaning; I read to be entertained. I was certainly NOT entertained by this one bit. The main characters were irritating and all the supporting characters were equally obnoxious and unrealistic. Even the dialogue left much to be desired. The only thing I enjoyed was the setting and description of the surrounding nature.

it seems deeper than it actually is and hypocritical at least.
Spoiler does good really win when she has the same interest as the villagers and the only thing separating one from the other is that the one proposal they are offered is criminal and besides she talked to the stranger before personally so she had an extra chance ? she didn't stand up for viscos and its poor inhabitants who would be condemned forever, or berta who would go flying the sky; she knew good (for her) would be hugely rewarded, even more than evil which would have had a group effect and benefit. she was about to do the same as her neighbours... would she have acted the same if she hadn't known that she would be rewarded ? she isn't no hero, she was only looking for herself, she didn't save no one. if the villagers were offered good in the same conditions would they have been heros as well ? no, they would have been impassive people.
anyways, occasionally, it made me reflect.
