Is very much what it says on the tin. Different examples shown within, not alot of 'how to' with in progress available. Better for those who are visual learners. Does provide solid advice as well as answers some Q&A. Gives examples of past diary writers.
Is for sure a good book for beginners and a good reference point.

To try

It makes me want to try this. But, being me, that's going to have to wait until I finish the journal I'm currently working on.

This is my first introduction to the basics of bullet journals, and it feels like a good one. It answers the how's & why's, with enough specifics to show why this method is useful - but enough options to demonstrate the flexibility. I really liked the sample layouts. The books is not overly focused on the beautifully creative layouts that you theoretically could create, but it does give some recommendations for products to use if you want to go that route. I'm definitely inspired to give this a try!

Pretty basic book about dot journaling (a form of bullet journaling). This gives you a nice idea of how to set up your first journal in an easy-to-digest way. I had already started using a planner for the year, so I've actually adapted it in a way that I can use the dot journaling methods from this book. I feel like the book did give me a great understanding of how to set up a dot journal next year when my planner runs out.

Yes, you can find a lot of the info in this book online for free. However, it's nice to have a concise reference to look at rather than having to look around on Pinterest or the web. The author has everything presented to you in the order that best works for her personal journal. Great book and I do recommend it.

As a person who loves making lists and crossing things off as they get done, I can’t decide whether this is too much time and effort for keeping a planner/to-do list or whether this is a fucking brilliant way to track and take note of life as it speeds by.

I found my to-do notebook from a few years ago and was feeling all nostalgic/relieved over some of the awful crap I had to put up with but also some of the fun times too but then practical me used the empty backs of the pages to finish off the notebook and make grocery lists and now it’s garbage.

Also, the author showed multiple examples from her own personal dot journal, and she kept referencing someone named “Sam” who she snuggled with but who also destroyed her apartment and was found in her bed with “Dakota” in separate entries. I was like, “whoa, you need to get rid of that psycho hothead” but then deduced that Sam is a pet, especially since most of her entries were about Alex (meeting his parents, shopping at IKEA, etc.)

In conclusion, I looked up bullet journals on Amazon and they cost quite a bit more than the notebooks/planner I currently use. $10 for a notebook that only has 50 sheets?! Ugh!

The author based this off of the bullet journal method but puts their own spin on it. It's the reason she calls it dot journaling. She gives great ideas for spreads and gives practical advice for creating your dot journal.

I’ve read quite a few bullet and dot journaling since January 2023 (it’s currently May ‘23) and Miller’s take on the dot journal is one of the more engaging and informative ones out there. I originally got her book from the library but then bought my own copy from Amazon so that I could bookmark my favorite spread ideas.
I’m a high-volume dog sitter and use the bullet/dot journal method to keep track of clients, boarding dates, drop-ins, and walks. I also have numerous pages of journal entries, lists, and regular to-do items. Miller provides essential information for getting the dot journal ball rolling and many of her spread/layout ideas are fresh and better than what you can find on Pinterest blogs. Her Intro and The Basics chapters were refreshers of the fundamentals and gave helpful insights into the benefits, ease, and usefulness of dot journaling.
