The Fall of the Governor: Part One, by Jay Bonansinga, Robert Kirkman

I was a bit disappointed in this one. The first two in the trilogy were enjoyable stories, it was great getting a glimpse into the past of The Governor and a bit of understanding as to why he is so twisted. When I found out that the third "book" was actually split into at least two parts, making this a series, not a trilogy, I was apprehensive. Then when this book was released right around the season premiere, yet again, I thought it was a bit hokey. This book takes us right smack dab into the end of Season 3 of the TV series, but for something being marketed as a tie-in to the series, it sure has the characters and events being completely different. As a stand alone, it would be just OK (it really does have the feel of a rushed piece commercialized fiction), but as a companion to the TV series, it stinks. Can't speak to how it would be as a companion to the comic series as I've only read a few of those. Bottom line is, if you're a TWD fan, you'll probably want to read it because it has Kirkman's name attached, but it probably didn't have much input from the man himself, my guess is the co author, Jay Bonansinga, did most of the work here.

Good, fast read. Finished it in one day actually but it does rehash much of TWD comic book as I am sure the final book will as well.

Re-read in 2016.

Very graphic torture in this novel. Interesting look at how delraved the governor is getting and the impact on the residents and visitors.

Disappointed to find out that this was cut into two parts. This is a trilogy - that means THREE not four books!

If you notice my ratings for these books, they keep going down. First book: 5, second book: 4 and now this one: down to a 2. Come on Kirkman!

This book intersects with the story of Rick and gives us a different perspective on the same tale.

We still have the horror and shock from the previous books, but I feel like we didn't learn that much more. We do get a more detailed account of the torture of both Michonne and in turn, the Governor. I also appreciated the reasoning and thoughts of Martinez.

Lilly still annoys the heck out of me and she's moved on from using one man to another. However, this time there are consequences.

This book was eh and the comics gave us more insight and told the story much better!!

#1 Rise of the Governor - ★★★★★
#2 The Road to Woodbury - ★★★★☆

Is there any zombie-themed books to recommended for me, guys? -,-
As a typical fangirl of The Walking Dead, this book made me fool after I finished like; "have no idea what I feel now!"
I'm just curious about, what if I read another zombie-themed book and how I'll feel when I read after all?
Only then I can clearly understand it. Kirkman's is da best or nay?
Just kidding, I'm on side you, Kirkman. All hail, Kirkman! Especially the comic's, Kirkman. Kirkman, you there?

Gittim.

So now this catches up to the comic series as we know the governor. Meeting Rick, what he does to Michonne, etc. I am not sure where they are going with the whole Lilly bit. I dind't get the point of her story. And honestly what happens does not make sense! After a week? I don't think so! I know that sounds vague if you haven't read it but I am biting my tongue to avoid stupid spoilers. Although I do like how everything ties together in this. I got a much better sense of Woodbury than I ever had. And the Governor just keeps getting more twisted! How is that possible! Very dark, and gritty with major torture scenes! You've been warned!
