I am reviewing the first five chapters of the book that I received from the publisher! 11/10!! WOW, the whimsical Bob Goff does it again. Reading these 5 chapters makes me feel like I just sat at a table with Bob and got to know him for a few hours! His words of encouragement and grace come to life through engaging stories from his own life. And they are full of hope and redemption in Jesus!
He admits, "It's given me a lot of comfort knowing we're all rough drafts of the people we're still becoming." Right there with you, Bob! His real-life character and love of God shines through each chapter. He encourages us to just go love people! His own experiences point to Jesus, and he shows tangible ways how to apply God's command to love our neighbors in everyday circumstances. "When joy is a habit, love is a reflex." Goff sure does emulate love, but most importantly, God IS love and this book is full of Him!

Any books that inspires me to be a better person deserves 5 stars. The reading is light and easy and touching and challenging. The book is told through stories and humor, but always has a mic drop moment. Recommend for sure!

Disclaimer: This is a religious book. That said, I don’t think you have to identify as Christian to enjoy it. (I personally am still trying to figure out what exactly I believe, and I certainly benefitted from it.)
I appreciate this book’s central message of “becoming love.” With heartfelt stories and a bit of laugh-out-loud humor, I found myself in tears multiple times reading it.

While Goff may have intended to bring people together, there’s still this overarching superiority/saviority complex and “otherness” that comes through at times, ultimately still drawing a line in the sand. As he says, everyone is equal in God’s eyes, but it feels like he still sees himself above the example groups he mentions. I was also pretty uncomfortable reading all the wealthy, white male privilege anecdotes he’s sprinkled in — there’s a *lot* of that. It makes some of the stories feel a bit self righteous and not very relatable to the average reader.
Overall, I would recommend the book, because there are some beautifully poignant takeaways that I feel can speak to anyone’s heart.

I can't wait to read Love Does! This was fantastic. Love everybody, always. It is simple. May not always be easy but it will always be simple. I love the examples and stories used in this book. Definitely recommend this!

I liked this book a lot. I see a lot of reviews arguing that he writes from a place of privilege instead of living incarnationally with many he is serving in his book. I understand that sentiment and feel it is valid but also feel that he uses his privilege to the advantage of those in the most need. He has been able to grasp the attention and aid of government leaders in a way that otherwise may not have been able. We need people who will give everything up to serve the poor but we also need those with power and influence to advocate and make the voiceless heard.
The beginning of the book was a little trite for me but by the end, his stories about ministry with the witch doctors (whose fingerprints make up the cover) I was fully intrigued by some of his amazing stories and experiences.
