The best part about this book was the recordings of Tolkien talking at the end, the rest was torturous to listen to.

This was definitely an imaginative and entertaining adventure. I cannot say I was particularly attached to any character and this made it hard for me to be excited about picking it up. People who are driven to read by action will like this book, but I felt it lacked and therefore will probably not pick up the LOTR series. Just sayin'.

I hadn't read this one since 9th grade, and it was definitely time for a revisit. I always enjoyed The Hobbit more than the other LOTR books, as it feels a lot less dry. Not much to say about this one. A fantastic story with well-written and fun characters. Definitely recommend for anyone that wants a great fantasy read.

What an adventure indeed, Mr. Baggins!

Gandalf the Wizard (who in my opinion is a bit of a bastard) strong arms Bilbo Baggins into going on an “adventure” with 13 superstitious dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield, son of Thrain, King under the Mountain to regain their stolen treasure from Smaug the Dragon. Although frankly, it seems like Gandalf was trying to do in poor Bilbo, who really would rather be in bed.

This was a great story and an intro to the Lord of the Rings series. We get an introduction to Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, and Trolls, as well as inter-species relations. We also are introduced to the Ring, Gollum, and taken all around Wilderland, and experience all of the many ways a poor little hobbit can be killed outside of his hole.

My favorite part of the whole book was J.R.R. Tolkien’s writing style. He authors a story as if telling a charming bedtime story, complete with breaking the fourth wall and making personal interjections and comments about the characters or the situations they find themselves in.
”There it is: dwarves are not heroes, but calculating folk with a great idea of the value of money; some are tricky and treacherous, and pretty bad lots; some are not, but are decent enough people like Thorin and Company, if you don’t expect too much.”
They’re cute, witty, and funny. It made this story all the more enjoyable. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Audio book listen with the Legendary Andy Serkis Narrating! These will always be a favourite.

Even if his Thranduil voice reminded me of Snape

Hobbit Review No.345,000,029 in D Major [1.Tolkien Dedication] as performed by the Oakenshield Orchestra and the Rivendell Children’s Choir:

“It matters not what one thinks of ‘The Hobbit’.
Another review? Dios mio, please stop it!
Everything now is pre or post-Tolkien,
Don’t act so shocked, Macaulay Culkin!

Home Alone

Negative reviews are fake news says ‘The Donald’,
John's given kids more joy than Ronald McDonald!
Ya Hey! Ya-Harri-Hey! Ya hoy!
Goblins, Wizards, Elves; oh boy, what a joy!

Tolkien’s the pillar that all other’s stand on,
There’s not a trope, good or bad, that hasn’t his stamp on.
I’ve heard it expressed as a general Reuel,
Most authors don’t equate to Tolkien’s Bristol stool.

Tra-la-la-lally! Fa-la-la-lally! Fa-la!
This wily motherfucker really set the bar!
So, thank you, Mr.Tolkien, for your contribution to the genre,
I’m having an old friend for dinner, that’s a double entendre.

It’s clear by now that I’m no poet,
I’ve exposed myself! Now everyone will know it!
So goodbye for now, adios y au revoir,
I’m off to spend an evening in Galadriel’s boudoir

May your beard grow longer
and your virility stronger,
May a thrush land upon your shoulder,
May you live to be a great deal older.

Break it down now!
I said a hib-hob, the Hobbit, the Hobbit
