Adorable comic about the genetically engineered animals left behind after a war which destroys the human race. As well as being fun with some of the cutest characters ever, it also looks at themes of patriarchy, behavioural programming and prejudice.

Angelic is a fresh and imaginative story about a girlmonk who refuses to stop asking questions and an outcast Mans (a talking, complaining, cyber-bio manatee) and their quest to find the missing piece of the Aye, the allegedly all-powerful thing that will fix everything, including the toxic clouds that keep the monks from being able to go anywhere beyond their current roost.

The story is certainly clever in world building and organic revelation of events that may have led to the current state of Earth (or Urth). The main characters are developed carefully. The dialog and writing allows the story to run at a very natural pace with enough confusion to relate to the characters and enough explanation to develop events. The panels add to the action and flow beautifully. The art is fantastic with lush colors.

The story comes to a nice climax at the end of the 6th single (end of the first TPB volume 1). I can't wait to read what's next! Recommended for those who like cats, information booths, and flying monkeys.

NEW ONGOING SERIES PREMIERE! - WINGED MONKEYS! TECHNO-DOLPHINS! QUANTUM ALLEYCATS! - Humanity's long gone. Its memory lingers only as misunderstood rituals among mankind's leftovers: the genetically modified animals they used and abused for eons. - But for one young flying monkey, QORA, the routines are unbearable. All she wants is to explore. Instead she's expected to settle down, to become a mother...to lose her wings. - Eisner nominee SIMON SPURRIER (The Spire, CRY HAVOC, X-Men Legacy) and rising-star CASPAR WIJNGAARD (LIMBO, Dark Souls, Assassin's Creed) present your new bittersweet adventure obsession: teenage rebellion and animal antics amidst the ruins of civilization! - Think WALL-E by way of Watership Down. Fly, my pretties!

I hate human beings because I see the truth in this book.
I love human beings because we are capable of something this beautiful, and devastating.

Genetically modified animals, tortured, experimented on, brain-washed and left behind by human beings after a battle with a homicidal AI.
The protagonist is a young female monkey, a girl-monk, who wants more, is nobedient
Her quest is beautiful and heartbreaking, and I need to be a better person right now.

The language is great. The slight shifts in words and meanings.

A massive amount of time after humans have left the earth, various tribes of sentient and genetically modified animals rule in their stead. This is about the one who question, and to tell you much more would be to run this, I think. It's extremely well done if a bit predictable, and super pretty in terms of illustration and detail. A post-apocalyptic, anthropomorphic coming of age story, if you like.
