A movie novelization that wasn't so exactly like the movie that it bored me! It actually combined pieces of both the movie and the book, along with a few things that weren't in either that I really liked!

It's years since I read this, and I can't think why. My copy is battered, as much from being read repeatedly as from being 10+ years old (I can't remember exactly when I was given it, but I was eight or nine), and though I still remembered most of the plot points, there were a lot of details I'd forgotten. It was still as enchanting as it was a decade ago and, like my primary school self who dressed as Meggie for World Book Day, I still finished it feeling like maybe if I tried hard enough when reading aloud, something might emerge from a book.

Definitely going to reread the other two now. I think I've only read each of them once or twice, so there's a lot that I don't remember.

It was okay. I really appreciate the whole Book-Lover Quirks™, and the characters are good. But there was a lot of "they went here and did this, then they went there and did that" kind of plot. Like, they would just move from one place to another but it didn't feel like the plot was advancing much. It made it longer than it should've been.

Not fantastic, but not a bad read, either.
