the use of the r-word and the word "indians" for indigenous people wasn't cool, but I also think that the characters themselves were very ignorant, so idk if that's necessarily a reflection of the author's beliefs

This book follows quite a few characters and their wild adventures in the Florida Everglades. I read the entire thing in two sittings, so I felt it deserved a high rating, even though it’s probably one of the stupidest books I’ve ever read — but I think it’s supposed to be!! It’s satire of the people & activities in the Everglades, but at some points I think it’s closer to reality than farce (my credentials: I’ve lived in Florida for 12+ years, have been on an airboat tour of the Everglades, and went to the University of Florida, therefore I know all about the infamous “Florida man”). There were a lot of storylines going on in this book, which kept it interesting, I only wish the names of the male characters could’ve been more varied — it was hard to keep Phil, Stu, Brad, Ken, Kark, Billy, and Duck straight. A funny, easy read overall!

A zany, sarcastic, and outlandish portrait of the Florida Everglades
