Creepy, lusty, bunny?

Vivid characters? Yes!
Unreliable narrator? Yes!
Strange and unholy happenings in a friendship group? Yes! Yes!

The theme of loneliness in this book was heart aching and gripping, and shown in ways I’ve never come across before. It was a struggle to put it down to sleep!

I’m not sure I always understood (or even liked) our protagonist, but her unsettling and unrelenting university experience was now mine too, and I wasn’t going to let her go it alone.

Very dark interesting story. Very metaphorically written - which can be hard to follow at times. I absolutely did not expect the twist at the end.

I'm really not sure what I was supposed to get from this book. Is it a commentary on the pain and desperation of loneliness? Is it a mockery of elitism? Is it insanity for the sake of insanity?

It was certainly easy to read, I'll give it that, but I kept waiting for something that never came. I kept waiting for there to be a reason why this book was slut-shaming so much. Kept waiting for it to be funny like all the blurbs claimed it to be. Kept waiting for the characters' actions and motivations to make sense. Kept waiting to find out what was so dark about Samantha's writing that it was worse than the girls writing about rape and murder.

Honestly, I don't know what I think about this book. I know I didn't enjoy it. I didn't find the characters compelling and despite the over-the-top plot, I found the story as a whole pretty boring. I don't know what I was looking for, but this wasn't it.

Such disorienting world building! I felt swept up in the confusion, chaos and blurred reality throughout reading it, so much so that I was thinking about this book like it was my real life and my real friends. The satirization of academia paired with the stark class division was funny in an uncanny way.

I enjoyed the story, but the "twist" ruined it. The "it was actually all schizophrenia trope" is tired. It can be done in a tasteful way, that still leaves an intriguing story, as seen in The Circus by Jonas Karlsson, but this is not that.
There is a chance that Mona Awad intended it to be more open ended, but it that was the case then, in my opinion, she overwrite the details.
I enjoyed the reading experience.  I would suggest it if you are looking for the kind of book that makes you feel like you got a fever and nothing is real, you might really enjoy it! Just don't accept it as schizophrenic representation, please!
