Looks like the beginning of another interesting series from Haddix. For the Missing series, she starts with a strong hook and then slows her plot down quite a bit. It seems like it takes the kids quite a while to piece together everything that is happening to them and around them. I think Among the Hidden was a much stronger lead for the Shadow Children series. However, I do like how she's going to mix up historical fiction and science-fiction. Reminds me of Michael Crichton's Timeline, which was a quick-paced adventure! I'll keep reading this new series just to see where she takes us.

The plot was interesting, but the writing was nondescript. As I was warned, the ending is a cliffhanger, and a very good one. Even though I didn't enjoy this book, I find myself wanting to see what happens next.

I totally get why this series is so big with its target audience. It was a fast, suspenseful read and I'm looking forward to picking up book two!

One of the best books that Margaret Peterson Haddix has ever written! I'm so excited to get the next book in the series!

Just felt too young for me and I was getting annoyed at every character.

5/5 reread.

So much better better than the first time I read this.

3.5~
I absolutely love time-travel!
This book could've been better but I accept the fact that it IS a children's book like Perch Jackson and Harry Potter. I'm not a big fan of "friends - together forever, no matter what the circumstances" which is a big theoh they use throughout the book.
The story was enjoyable and exciting.
