I liked the idea but I found the execution boring.
I don't feel that the characters were well rounded enough. Often it felt like we had almost jumped mid scene to something different. Lots of part of it felt unfinished.

This book was fun and quirky, but also not what I expected. I think I held that against the book even though over all I enjoyed it. The time traveling was a little odd, and I wanted more from Josh and Siena….just more. And although I didn’t ultimately like the romance the way it was written I liked the ending and the supernatural blended with history stuff. Super interesting.

I was a little worried about starting this as I have read a couple romance books recently and not enjoyed them.
I loved this book as a super easy fun read. I love a magic house trope and the characters who lived in Beldam house gave me similar vibes to the witches of Moonshine Manor.
I definitely need an element of magic/apocalypse/evil threat alongside my romance.

Hex Appeal has a plot that drew me in - witch Essie Winterscale lives with her coven in a hidden house called Bedlam in Essex. Until one day the house's new owner Josh comes to claim his inheritance and back-rent after discovering none has been paid in over 100 years.
I really thought I'd get into this, but, unfortunately this book just wasn't for me. I found it slow to get into and once the story started to develop I just found I wasn't as invested in the characters and their journey. I think there was just a lot going on with each of the house inhabitants that took away too much time.
I cannot fault the writing, especially the dialogue, but this was just a miss for me. My three star rating though is for the fact this book *is* for someone else, and judging by others I am in the minority! I just can't give it a one or two star because I didn't dislike it, just didn't gel and that is no fault of the author, whom I would still give another go.

This was my first book by Kate Johnson and there were things I liked, and things I disliked.
The premise of the book was sound, but there were too many elements conflicting with each other. The shape-shifting house, the witches themselves and the ordinary people in the village.. I found it confusing and rushed.
The writing style jumped from chapter to chapter almost as if different people contributed parts of the story.
There were comedic moments but they were thin and far apart in the book.
I can't see this as a rom-com as both parts were lacking.
The mmc felt very fat-phobic at times, which was an immediate no no for me.
