It's funny how even the tiny installments like this are still good.

I will admit, I did a double take when Dum Dum Dugan showed up. I would have thought he'd be really old or had died a long time ago, considering he fought in WWII, but apparently not. OK. Good to know. Thank you Wikipedia.

Some of the Civil War issues made me question how Steve had time to fight the Civil War AND look for Skull, but that's a minor thing. I did appreciate seeing what Sharon and Bucky were doing during the war though. So that was cool.

Really what made this book a 4 star read for me was the Winter Kills issue. The rest of the book was probably just 3 stars, but the Winter Kills issue was great. I love Bucky, and I love the Young Avengers, so put the two together, and I'm a happy nerd. On top of that, WWII flashbacks? Yes! It was just so well written and so well done. That issue was great.

So overall this is probably a 3 star book, but if you're a Bucky fan like me, it's a 4 star book. (Sorry Steve.)

It's not as enjoyable, as the previous issue for Civil War, but this was the planning bit.

Wow, I guess I never left a review for this either.

This doesn't show a significant part of the Civil War storyline. It doesn't even show 1/4 of the storyline. It's a few issues that basically deal more with how Sharon is handling Steve's rebellion than anything else.

The last issue with Bucky and the Young Avengers is my favorite. It's also a really wonderful look at how Bucky's been coming to terms with everything he missed while he was the Winter Soldier. Namely, Toro's death and the way the world has changed in his absence. It was nice to see him interacting with the Young Avengers and their respect for him because he was basically the first real sidekick.

Not a recommend, to be honest. You can get by on the Civil War story without reading this.

I will have to look up the complete Civil War arc (I have it in French at the library) but Captain America's side of the arc combined with Winter Soldier's Winter Kills makes for a solid opus. It offers action, spy games, regrets, redemption. I am still learning my way through the whole Marvel universe. Baby steps but I think Brubaker's era is a good introduction for me so far. I am intrigued that there's a girl!Hawkeye in this verse. The Death of Captain America is the next parts on my to-read list.

Cap barely appears in his own issues (and is a bit of a cipher in the whole Civil War storyline, unlike Tony, who is absolutely everywhere but never says anything interesting). The flashbacks in the Winter Soldier bit are sweet, though.

I don't really like the Civil War story line but I love anything that has Winter Soldier in it, so Winter Kills are just for me.
