This came highly recommended from one of my friends and I spent maybe the first 60% of the book feeling pretty eh about the protagonist. However! Once we got there, I was devouring it, I had a delightful time and this world is teeming with conversations surrounding oppression and anarchism and racism in a hundred different fascinating spots that I absolutely loved fjdkdls.

I really enjoyed this. The world building was great and I liked the humour sprinkled throughout the story. There's tension and some action that kept me hooked.
I love Wyatt as the MC. He's snarky and has quite a bit of growth over the pages.
I'm looking forward to the next book to see where the story goes next.

The whole plot, at least as it’s set up in the beginning, centers around marriage and childbearing, neither of which I am interested in. Yes, the book appears supportive of the main character’s trans-ness, but stop with the child bearing focus already. Not for me. Maybe if I’d stuck with it, it would have gotten better but I’m not willing to do that at the moment.

I really enjoyed this one! Sometimes I would feel disconnected from the story, but I think halfway through I was in the groove of reading it and couldn’t put it down. I’m excited for the second book especially after how this one ended!

Fuck me, was this book gay and really enjoyable.
I loved the setting, which was both light and funny, but also tackled wide societal issues and personal trauma and growth. I really enjoyed Wyatt as a character, who felt like a very true 17 year old ousted trans boy who is really horny. I enjoyed the other characters too and seeing their effects on the development of the story. I enjoyed the snippets we see of Briar’s anti-establishment working class indigenous family, not representation you see often.
I enjoyed the book touching on issues such as anti-queer hate and prejudice, anti-establishment, land occupation by non-natives, and problem solving these issues, however the author had a tendency of showing these allegories well, and then telling you exactly what they were trying to do - trust your writing to get the message across.
I can understand why other readers may have thought the writing was not mature enough for them, but I was enjoying the ride of the story.
