i’m not one for war books BECAUSE they are depressing and horrific, but this one... well it did not scrimp on the horrors, but it’s almost… perverse in how it indulges in them? i do think i should read things that disturb me every now and then, but somehow the erotic nastiness of the book helped soften it too, though not as much as the children of the king did, so i came away from it feeling properly disturbed. in this way, i enjoyed the story both as someone trying to break out of her comfort zone and also as a pervert

i quite liked the first person plural narrative and the short, “objective” sentences. i really did like the twins. they were fun protagonists, even when in some sections they were not so lovable. the ending is a bit of a cliffhanger but i learned that it was a trilogy b4 i finished so i didn’t mind. i’m not too keen on reading the next two tho. i kind of like the level of Fucked Up in this first book and the next two sort of unravel it in a meta way i hear

The following book reviews have been shared by Text Publishing – publisher of The Notebook Trilogy

‘So brilliant and brutal, and each subsequent book makes you go a bit crazy as you try to nut out how the new perspective fits with, or transforms, what you’ve already read about the events.’
Lifted Brow, Favourite Books of 2017

‘With sharp phrases that seem to have been used for the first time…[this work reminds] us that the truth of the books lives entirely in their pages, outside of them there are only speculations, vain complaints and self-complacency.’
Andrés Felipe Solano
