Good book but I get bogged down in the middle.

First volume was good, fun to read and interesting, this one is still interesting but with some last minute trick in the story line to get it back on track. It's not worked on enough, more proof reading and few adjustment could have corrected this.
Let's hope that volume 3 will get better.

Pretty Good. Pretty Gruesome. Still not great character development, but some good twists.

I didn't enjoy this installment as much as the first book in the series, The Second Ship. The good:
the idea is very original, and the second book was a nice continuation of the plot of the first book.

However... the author's writing style can be frustrating. The biggest problems was the POV characters. The three main characters, all high school students, just began to grate on my nerves. The author also liked to introduce even more secondary characters, sometimes even for a chapter or two, and I didn't like that. I might eventually read the last installment, but it's not at the top of my list.

I kind of feel like this book was less focused than the first book in the series. I picked it up and read about 25% in, then put it aside for almost four months. I picked it up again a couple days ago and finished it, so it is still very gripping. Mr Phillips has obviously put a LOT of research into all the technology/professions/physics that he writes about (whether or not everything is 100% true to life is unlikely, but even if it isn't, he writes it in a way that shows he knew "you can't break the rules unless you know them", and I appreciated that. The book comes off rather smart in that regard.

There is a LOT of violence, though, and a LOT of disturbing sexual abuse (and an off-scene rape/murder of an unnamed character--so be warned!). There is a lot of stuff in this book that is truly very gross and disturbing. That being said, Phillips made most of it seem reasonable. (The unnamed character being raped was completely unnecessary to ANY part of the plot nor did it further character development.)

I may read the third book, but I'm going to have to read some more cheerful things first.

You'll probably like this book if you enjoyed Dan Brown, and like physics/technology/UFOs, etc.

I wish more time could have been spent in the post-school portion of the story, but overall it was a great follow up to The Second Ship.

Much better flow than the first. Jennifers motivations were really unclear to me.

Not nearly as good as the first. Started the third but will not finish. The series lost a lot of steam.
