My Heart

This was a special beautiful kind of self inflicted torture. It’s been a little while since I got worked up like this. But it is more then worth it! I absolutely love Glover’s writing style she is my ole faith, go to, when I’m in a slump or just don’t know what to read, so I usually squirrel away her books for a rainy day but I absolutely couldn’t put this one off. She is so adept at giving an in-depth perspective on health conditions, mental health issues, and neurodivergent behaviors. It’s an art the way she handles them with such care. It’s not for shock value it’s clearly for representation. I loved the journey. I loved the tears, the suspense, the love, the humor, and the heartache. I loved this book.

Patience is a virtue and they way Kellen waited for Wendy made me swoon. This Princess and the Frog retelling was perfect. Reading Wendy and Kellen’s story made me feel so many different emotions. It made me laugh, cry, roll my eyes. I got a little nervous and my heart broke a few times. The way this story dealt with mental (anxiety) and physical (HCM) illness was masterful. She was delicate with the way she almost made them secondary characters. I appreciate how Tanzania made me feel. I was so torn between delight and devastation because we’re watching two people fall in love while also preparing to bury one. The spark between these two really exploded into beautiful chemistry and the love scenes were *chefs kiss*. If I had one complaint it’s that I wanted more time with these two.
