Wow! Ruthless King took me on a crazy, fun roller coaster ride. It hurt so good at times. Made me curse in a couple places. There was just a small part in the middle that I had to fight through. Other than that, it was a really engaging read with complex, realistic characters with real life issues. I totes can’t wait for the next book.

I voluntarily read an early copy.

Meeting the Characters
Emmett
Avery
----------------------------------
What happens?
Emmett and Avery used to date in high school. Everything was going very well until Avery had a visit from Emmett's parents telling her to break up with him otherwise they would get her father fired from his job.
Avery had been holding up the family to try and raise her little sister when her dad goes into a tailspin after her mother passes away. Emmett believes she has cheated on him because he walks in on her pleading with a fellow student to not tell anyone about her dad stealing from the students locker. Emmett cannot and will not listen to any explanation and they go their separate ways for (4 years?) a while.
Emmett is forced to face his demons when Avery's little sister is on the receiving end of a scholarship that his family helps to provide. Avery must decide to tell Emmett the truth about what was going on or face losing him again.
Final thoughts
This was so much feels. I felt pain for them both and anger for them both. The ending is sort of a resolution and not really. Its an interesting ending where although they're together and happy his parents still sort of win? Still nice read and I'm curious about the next one!!
Would I read again?: Yes

Best one so far! This one is a second chance romance. Each book in the Kings of Rittenhouse series can be read as a stand alone (each features a different couple,) but for this particular book, I think you really should read the previous books, as there is a build up into this couple's backstory. You won't need to read them to follow, but it does make this book better. There is so much hatred and anger, but also so much love. She's made sacrifices no young women should have to make and unfortunately it is at the expense of her relationship. He's a generous friend, to a fault, and part of that is the reason she finds herself in the situation she is in. (Not that it's his fault.) And the reason he has so much hatred in his heart for her. All the characters in the series are fun and unique, and well developed. There are some highly intense emotional scenes throughout. (Both on the positive and negative ends.) It's heartbreaking moments really hit you. There are a couple surprises. We also get a sneak peek at the next book's couple. ;) It's a well crafted/told story. Reads easily and smoothly. It has flashbacks to the past. Alternates between POVs. There is sexual content and thus this is suitable for mature readers.
