I'm not sure but I think I may have liked this better if I was actually reading it instead of listening to the audiobook. The narrator isn't terrible by any means but she has to do a very high voice for Gylfie and it hits my ears like a cheese grater that's got lava rocks glued to it. Definitely going to read them from now on.

Very fun read. I love Lasky's style of writing! Great story, interesting characters, and a strong plot.

O.W.L.s Readathon 2020
I was actually kind of excited finding out all these years later after watching the film, that it was actually based on a book series, and even though middle grade isn't my favorite genre, there have been a few exceptions (i.e. the first few Harry Potter books). Sadly I did not enjoy this. There's so many interesting ideas, I just love the fact that this is told from the perspective of owls, but I couldn't help but be utterly bored through most of this. It felt like next to nothing really happened over the span of 200 pages. But I don't think this is a bad book, it's just not for me.

The Capture was one of those books that I expected to reread and end up disappointed when it fell flat in my maturity. I'm so glad to be wrong.
In the first few chapters I was surprised at how much correct information there was about owls. Very little was glossed over for the sake of making this fantasy come to life, and that impressed me. And the story just got better with two likeable characters and action that didn't shy away from too much violence or suspense. Furthermore, I was indeed surprised by how much action there was in such a short book. I felt like I was reading a 500 page novel with three separate climaxes and it didn't get to be too tiresome. In fact, it ended up being a very thrilling read.
Note: I did read an audiobook version (I'm not sure who the narrator was) and my one complaint about the book is that the characters all tended to have squeaky voices that grated on my nerves which made the book very hard to get through.
