You Suck by Christopher Moore

This was my second time reading a book by Moore, and I wasn’t too impressed. I found only about 50 pages in (when I was very confused) that this was in fact the second book in a Vampire Love Story series.

The story starts with Tommy waking up and finding his girlfriend has turned him into a vampire. It added some comedic elements – Abby Normal was probably my favorite of it all. Tommy’s girlfriend now has to teach him how to be a vampire when she doesn’t even know herself. They are also trying to hide from the cops who believe they have left town.

Overall, I wasn’t as impressed with this book as I was with Fool. the story seems over the top, the characters weren’t my favorite and there were many things I thought they could have focused more on instead of others.

I doubt I will read the other two parts to the story, but it was interesting getting another taste of Christopher Moore’s writing.

Funny, love the references to local places and the crossover with A Dirty Job. Swearing happens and sex happens and drug references happen. But a good read, especially out loud.

I enjoyed this book but it's not nearly as good as the first book in the trilogy, Bloodsucking Fiends. Somehow the writing falls short. I also despise intros to books that are a part of a sequence that attempt to recap the previous books in the storyline. I prefer the author to assume that the reader has read the previous books in the series (as a true fan should have anyway) or the book should be written in such a way there should be no need to write such an information packed intro.
I think I am also annoyed by the introduction of Abby Normal's character and perspective. It's incredibly immature and her language is grating.
But if you focus on the story and the rest of the perspectives, you can get past the other junk and realize it's pretty funny. So 3 stars it is!

Cuuuuuute. Wonder if I'd like it better if I'd read Bloodsucking Fiends first. The Dirty Job moment was cute, I admit.
