Fantastic volume, where the series really starts to shine. The focus on Punyama Mama (not Punyama anymore lol) was a welcome one and she becomes a very complex and well-developed character.
This is also the start of Punpun's real downfall.

Punpun’s high school years start in an awful and traumatic way. I still do not understand why
Midori raped him. I get that she was hung up about Punpun’s uncle cheating on her, and she admitted to wanting to get back at him. But for her to actually go through with it
seemed really out of character, or just done for shock value. I think a similar effect could have been created even if she had stopped herself. That event basically wrecks
Punpun’s mental health; he becomes much more depressed and self-serving than before. There’s also no consequences for Midori, which was infuriating.

The highlights in this volume for me included Seki and Shimizu’s unique friendship, Kanie’s existence (such a sweet girl), and the reappearance of
Harumi
in Mama Punpun’s arc. Mama Punpun’s backstory was so interesting and did a good job at showing her redeeming qualities.

This volume is a tough one. PunPun is coming of age, starts his pubescent years with a pretty messed up start. His Uncle’s story has some crazy developments but seemingly comes to a positive. PunPun’s Mother’s storyline is kind of heartbreaking. I call it a tough one but the manner that the story is told continues to be addictively readable so I feel solid about the high rating.

It tried getting better and then we got hid with an on screen rape. And the writer really clumsily tried to make the mother a good character or at least complicated and kinda failed. Listen, I do not really have a clue, our main character is disgusting and there is nothing to really do about it except hope that he grows out of it.
