i felt interested in this story, i don't expect to re-read this or recommend to anyone. so much content warning, some of it unwarranted. sloan was a character i loved
i hated asa with my entire being (which i guess was the point)
. the story wasn't super predictable which i liked. the ending gave me all the answers i was looking for and it didn't make me cry. over all, my least fav hoover book. possibly my least fav book of the year so far.

So that happened. And I was HOOKED!!
From the moment we met Sloan I fell in love with her! She was brave yet vulnerable! I love the connection she found in Carter/Luke and how thag was portrayed! I love how we also got to see Asa’s perspective of things. The one thing I didn’t enjoy was the use of the mental illness. To pretend to have schizophrenia as a get out clause for your crimes is not okay. However I did enjoy seeing the chaotic side of Asa.

Love is not found. It finds.

This story was honestly addicting, angsty, and so damn stressful I just couldn’t put the book down! I’m trying not to say too much about the book as YOU NEED TO READ THIS!!! The perfect book if you like romance with a sprinkle of darkness.

Trains and buses stole my shoes and now I have to eat raw squid.

This is actually a re-read for me that I didn’t remember at all. Read this 8 years ago and not one thing in the book I remembered. I did overall enjoy it but it was a 4 star for me back then. Now it’s low 3.

Some interesting things I noticed now that I likely wouldn’t have back then. Sloan is dealing with a very complicated cPTSD that is compounded the further you read. There’s a lot unpack. It’s also likely very triggering for others with trauma. That’s a common critique I’ve heard in other CoHo books and now years later I see that back in this book.
