not as hitting as neal shusterman's other dystopian slash sci-fi series, but still good. always love the fast-paced plot he has written, the dark elements and the character developments in this book.

my other concern was the weak world-building, maybe it's because only the first book but that's what i felt and one of the main characters was questionable, i did not know if i liked or didn't like them. however, i am definitely seated for unwholly.

i also noticed there is a pattern of mr. shusterman's writing, which is very interesting.

This is about the darkest conceit in the "damage against kids" line.

I wasn't sure I wanted to read this but I'm so exited that I did. This was different from other books and I really enjoyed it.

Great read. Much stronger in the second half than the first in my opinion. Some scenes will be forever burned in my brain, such as
Spoiler Roland's unwinding. I've read and watched my fair share of horror but that scene chilled me to my very core
.

While the overall concept is a bit outlandish, the book does a good job at making it fit into the story's worldbuilding, which in turn really makes you care for the characters and leaves you always questioning what's going to come next. The plot also managed to take me by surprise quite a few times, which I always appreciate.

Overall 3.5, but I'll round it to 4 for scarring my soul with that scene.

Read with my student book club. Interesting concept, but I don't think I want to read on in the series.

The second half of this was riveting and full of surprises. Good story, don't scratch too deep.

To think I started reading this to avoid my 500 word discussion on embryonic stem cell research.

This book was amazing. It really caused me to think and the ending certainly did surprise me. Some parts of the book dragged but other parts made it hard to put down.
