this was so informative. i think this is one of the most accessible non-fiction books i have ever read. this is because it was written in a narrative way.

Wow. This is a gruesome, overwhelming, informative story. Though it's hard to hear how flagrantly radium has been used without safety precautions, I'm glad this tale is being told. I also like that this book showcases the lives of the women most effected and shares their human stories.

A story that has been swept under the rug time and time again (the author has a post-script from the*1970s*, decades after the court case), of how corporations are putting profits ahead of their employees. As the book makes very clear, the company *knew* what radium could do, and yet still instructed the dial painters to lip point their brushes. It's a horrifying, essential read about the oversight of corporations in America.

While I am not personally squeamish, I will make a warning for the faint of stomach not to pair this book with food. That being said, it is both informative and downright infuriating - not just the injustice and gaslighting that the women endured, but also the parallels I see surviving in today's work standards. There's a saying that every workman's law is written in blood, but companies still try to shirk their way around them to throttle out every last cent of profit.

Definitely a book that should be widely read, in my humble opinion.

Capitalism did it again to these poor women. The way radium was first described was like the start of a horror novel, when you know it's all going to shit for these people. Love when I want to slap a bunch of men through time.
