I don't remember the last time I burned through a book this quickly.

Gwenda Bond drops us into the Superman mythos, taking us on an amazing romp through Lois Lane's introduction to Metropolis after moving all over the country with her Army Dad and family. I fully expected this to be an exploration into Lois that deviated from Superman canon and wrote a new Smallville and Metropolis into being...but instead, I feel like that entire universe has been somehow filled in more, and all through Lois.

The characters are fantastically written, the world well filled in, and I walked away loving Lois and 'SmallvilleGuy' even more than I did before.

If you like good books, put this on your to be read pile. If you like Smallville, or Superman stories or just awesome female leads, stand in line and buy this when it comes out in May.

This ARC was given to me by Gwenda Bond and Switch Press Publications via a giveaway.

Really fun YA hard-boiled journalist, strong female, sci-fi, superhero-y mystery. I could see lots of students liking this and I have high hopes for the rest of the series.

This book was good but was manly just setup for what the next books in this series are going to be like, and introducing us to our cast of cub reporters and setting for this teen adventure series. I liked the cast of characters that surrounded Lois but I really feel as if Bond left them by the wayside to focus on Lois and Clark's relationship (complete with online persona that has his iconic glasses no matter how illogical that is.) While I understand this is a Superman property, I've read enough stories with him that I understand what kind of character he is, so I was more interested in getting to know the others. But I hope this is due to how Lois is written as stand-offish and will need some time to get to know her compatriots in following novels.
Also the online world in my mind was rather silly and requires a lot of suspension of disbelief especially if you have some knowledge of how VR works.

However the book also had some aspects of what I liked in the Sammy Keyes series which I loved as a kid so reading this book was a nice nostalgia trip for me. I look forward to reading the next books.

Lois Lane. Army brat, misfit, do-gooder, and newest student at East Metropolis high school. Since her dad requested a permanent assignment, Lois has to make it work here. No sticking her nose where it doesn't belong, no causing trouble, and no unnecessary attention.

Did you really create a noxious cloud that caused the evacuation of your school in Ohio?

Also: make a friend. Lois already has one, a virtual friend with the screenname SmallvilleGuy, but it would be nice to have another.

Since it is your first day, shouldn't you have arranged to be here on time? And did you really turn your seventh grade class into a 'gambling den'?

Loved this! It is oodles of fun, Lois is a wonderful character to follow, the story would hold up even without Lois's mysterious online friend... but of course, his (virtual) presence just adds to the enjoyment of the story. What I like most is this is a superhero love interest who can and does lead her own life and is equally concerned with protecting others. And at the end of each day, you, like Lois, will be looking forward to hearing from a certain young farmer.

I sincerely hope there are further novels about Lois. She is a deserving partner for the world's foremost superhero and someone we would all want as a friend. Plus, who doesn't want to see her reaction when she finds out that her digital maybe-more-than-a-friend looks like this?

4/1: Not sure how but this just came in the mail, and I'm reading it NOW.

3/11: I just pre-ordered this! I'm a sucker for strong female protagonists and anything superhero/comic book related, so clearly I'm extremely excited for this. Also, at the moment, there is a short story starring Lois available here with a %25 off coupon at the end. Who doesn't love a deal?

A really fun, quick read that satisfied my need for an alt superhero tale. The description of this being a Veronica Mars-type story are true. This is very Mars/Nancy Drew in the best way. The supporting characters will be fun to get to know.

I would like to be friends with this Lois Lane. She's smart, sarcastic, confident, and doesn't take any crap. It's nice to see a character like this in YA fiction and I loved her personality. This story was intriguing and interesting (virtual reality battles...yes!). I will be looking forward to the sequel.

Lois Lane: Fallout was a very entertaining read. As someone who's had an obsession with the relationship between Lois Lane, Clark Kent, and Superman since childhood, this was one I couldn't pass up. Gwenda Bond does a great job of imagining Lois as the army brat, new kid in Metropolis who quickly gets a job working for the teen contingent of the Daily Planet. She's soon immersed in a mystery involving some kids from her high school and a high tech gaming world that has turned them into something not unlike the Borg.

While Clark Kent never makes a *physical* appearance in the story, he is there via online chats between himself and Lois. He's a bit obnoxious with his *super secret* persona, not even being willing to tell her anything about his alter ego. C'mon, Clark Kent is a farmboy in Kansas, that's all you'd have to tell her....

One of my favorite bits was how Bond brought Lois onto the chatboards where she meets the mysterious SmallvilleGuy; a run-in with a UFO (of sorts) on a long drive across Kansas on one of her family's moves. It was quite clever.
