This book was ridiculous. I'm sad because I hoped there would be a series I could read here, being book #1 of a group, but there's no way I can stand the Fargos any further than this.

The rich, world-hopping, treasure-hunting, good-at-everything protagonist couple are completely unfazed by bad guys with guns shooting at them, always find someone to speak perfect English no matter where they are in the world, and magically that person they find just happens to have exactly the information they need and haven't shared that information with anyone else who's come asking (remembering, those people had guns). They also kill (when necessary) with no remorse, chalking it up to "they left me no choice" and moving on with their search without a moment's hesitation.

Read as audio book on my daily commute. Liked the narrator. Book was easy to follow and enjoyable listen.

My first foray into the world of Cussler has hit GOLD! Sam and Remi Fargo are a husband and wife treasure hunting team that circle the globe acquiring lost treasures and using the profit to benefit the world. They are every bit as charming and clever as Nick and Nora from "The Thin Man Mysteries". I was amazed by the fullness of all of the characters, both good and evil. The plot was a wonderful mix of the historical and the fantastical. I cannot wait for the next Fargo adventure!

I was looking for an adventure book, and I definitely found it. While some of the pieces of this felt like an old white dude’s fantasy (two extremely well-educated, traditionally hot individuals who got married, made a shit ton of money, and could retire before they were 40, and spent the rest of their lives adventuring around the world), I did like the overall puzzles and action that were included in this book. I partially listened to this one as an audiobook, partially read as an e-book, and partially read a physical copy, which is probably why it took me so long to actually finish the book… Even though it took me a while, I did enjoy it overall. I may or may not pick up the next one… To be determined.

Solid adventure. Too many neatly wrapped bows. Can you say Deus ex Machina?

A good addition to the Cusslerverse. The Fargos are a cross between Indian Jones and Agatha Christie's Tommy and Tuppence. As with most Cussler novels, there is a quasi-historical pin that holds the entire plot together. Sometimes this device is used to great effect, sometimes not; in Spartan Gold it was a so-so effort. But the playful interaction between Sam and Remi (the Fargos) kept it fresh and despite the less-than-threatening villain, I enjoyed the story. As I read I thought this was going to be a four star rating, but I found the end rushed and the 'final threat' little more than annoyance to the protagonists. Entertaining, filled with exotic locales, and peppered with just enough mystery to keep you guessing, this is a good read for fans of Cussler.
