I really like the idea of a gay, witchy modern day YA novel. This one was okay. I enjoyed the representation of lesbian, bisexual and trans persons.

I don’t think I would read the sequel as this just fell a little flat as far as how the story was told. I can’t quite place my finger on it. I imagine others would enjoy it.

This books was, for the most part, infuriatingly STUPID. There were too many plot threads that just went nowhere, the characters were frequently doing and saying the most aggravating things, and don’t even get me started on the “mystery” aspect of this book. 

Too many times, I found myself screaming obscenities at ALL of the characters. I would be more interested in learning about the magic systems and the clans of witches, but the author already struggles with how some things work in the real world, so I’m not positive they would have a great grasp of making the magic systems believable. 

Also, the audiobook narrator’s pronunciation of “forward” drove me crazy.
