I honestly liked this book better than A Room of One’s Own. I hated the first 40 pages but it got SO GOOD.

Although this book moved slow it was an interesting read, especially given the time it was written. Gilman writes the man's perspective very well and it was very interesting to see that even though this book is old many of the same thoughts, ideas and treatment of women are the same. I read this book for book club (along with MANHUNT) and I am excited to see what other book club members think of both of them together.

It was an interesting read. For how long ago the book was written, I think it has a wonderful message about patriarchal society and the assumptions that we take to be true. I wish it wasn’t written solely from the man’s point of view, but I wonder if that’s the only way it would have been read back then. I also found myself drawn to the environmental message about the downsides of factory farming and how unsustainable our current practices are.

WONDERFUL
After over a century from when this book was written, sadly, so much of the patriarchy depicted by these three men is still true and valid.
Aside from the impossibility of travel, herland sounds like a great place to live.
