This book has been on my shelf for so long, and I recently decided to just pick it up and read it. I wasn't disappointed.

This was a light, quick read. I've read other books by this author and enjoyed them, and felt the writing in this one was equally enjoyable. It was definitely written for more of the young adult crowd, but that didn't detract from the enjoyment. I thought it was fun to see the world through young Paski's eyes, especially concerning the vastly different ways of life in Taos, NM and Orange County, CA. I thought that the way Paski felt and dealt with those differences was pretty realistic. I liked Paski and some of the other quirky characters, and was happy that with the exceptions of a few minor errors in judgment typical of teenagers who want to fit in at a new school, Paski remained true to herself and what she felt was right/wrong. I also loved the way the book ended, with everything seeming to wrapped up in a satisfactory manner.

The only thing that made this book a little strange was the psychic aspect that seemed to be thrown in a little randomly. I think the story could've been fine without that part -- it might have made it seem a little more normal and believable, in fact. But, overall, it was still a light, fun read.

I bought this book hoping i would be able to have my kids read this book since it is about a girl who moves from New Mexico to California and her anguish of moving, well little did i know...
This is written for YA and my kids will not be reading it! I dont understand why the author felt she needed to have the main Character Paski of 16 fool around with her boyfriend and then ultimately decide she would sleep with him because he was "the one," after visitng Planned Parenthood.
How do we get ratings on books so that kids who don't want to read about sexual activity don't have to?!
I shouldve known better when the author's adult books series is call "The Dirty Girl's Social Club." just thought a YA book would be cleaner.
Good thing I only paid $.99 for this book!

i like her adult books but reading this pained me. felt like she was trying too hard to capture the teen-speak. "dad was like, no way, so whatever." which kind of sums up how i felt about this book.

I loved this book when I was younger and I haven't read it since; but I felt like reading some of my old childhood books. I remember loving this book because it's about a Mexican family, living in Orange County (uhm.. me??). I love the story of a small town family moving to a big city and feeling uncomfy cause you aren't white enough or rich enough. I loved the spiritual concept of this story and characters and how Paski's grandma was a healer. It's so crazy how her first party she goes to, she gets drugged...omg I didn't like how not PC it was... lots of the use of the "r" word and body shaming and racism and homophobia. That was hard to read. It was a cute read but overall wasn't as great as I thought. Still have a love connection to this book but not as obsessed as my 12 yr old self. I will reread again in some time.

This was one of those books that I read when I was younger and decided I would keep it forever. I've aged 11 years and re-opened this today and loved it all over again. Maybe it's nostalgia? Maybe it's the story but I imagine I'll re-read this again one day, maybe I'll share it with my younger sisters and maybe they'll love it too. It's such a strange mix of a teenage romance, with a mean girls twist as well as a bit of supernatural magic. And dirtbikes. This book made me want to race dirtbikes... maybe that's my next adventure?

Rodriguez changes her target audience from adult to young adult for this third novel. It was pretty good, I guess, but the ending tied up too quick, too easy, and there was almost too much happy ending - like three chapters' worth of "Everything worked out with her father; everything worked out with her friends; everything worked out with her boyfriend..." yada yada yada....

I know, I know, there's no pleasing me, is there? Not enough happy ending, too much happy ending... I simply say I'm discerning. ;)

I loved this book not enough to give it a 5 star-rating. I would love to meet the author. I could keep on reading this book over and over again. I am in love with Paski's dad's car. This book was amazing.
