Detailed

While these are the tropes I read, It is also very different from what I read. I am not sure how to explain it. One of the things that I did not like and made this a less enjoyable read was the body image trope. While I know we all go through our own body love journey as a big girl, ours tends to include a lot of body hatred and self-conscious, the way this one is done I didn't enjoy. Especially because her confidence kept going back to him and not self-discovery.
One thing I did like is thatv1, this series starts with the adopted son, and does not leave him last as an afterthought. Another thing I liked is that the main characters are very explicit about how each of them does not meet their expectations in every way, but in such a tactful way, I feel it's such a real human thing and it is nice to see it on page.
Another thing I liked is how explicit and close to reality the Mafia life is presented, especially the variety of business. Most of what I have read has never been this explicit, and it was refreshing.
Also NO THIRD ACT BREAK UP. This is my favorite thing about this book.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, once we got past the body image trope in the first couple chapters.

DNF @ 85% - I’m just so bored!! The spice was good, but the story is convoluted and their relationship is off to me.

Finn turned into an acceptable book boyfriend. It took a while though.

Oh wow, this was so dull. Around the halfway mark I started to skim when I should have just DNFed it. It doesn’t help that it was way longer than the storyline should have gone on for and neither character was interesting. As I read this on the kindle app, I checked how much longer I had when I thought I was over halfway done, but nope I was only 30 percent of the way in. The writing was odd and sophomoric.

I initially, tried to get into this story when it first came out but had to put it on hold because it just wasn't working for me. I am not sure if it was the instant love or what but it didn't live up to my expectations after reading her MC series. However, after reading Eoghan and Aoife's book, which I DEVOURED), I had to come back and try again.

It still wasn't my favorite, but it did get better. I have never been a fan of instant-love and therein lies the problem with this story for me. However, I am glad I did finish it because it did give me a chance to see some characters that I have come to appreciate and love as well as it gives more of an understanding of what the Five Points are and what it means. It is for that reason that I am rounding it up to 4 stars.

Finn and Aiofe are after my heart. I love them both so much. I love that Aiofe is curvy and plus size. You never really see that in the mafia world. I also loved that Finn loved her that way. He appreciated her body and showed her that as well. He never made her feel less than beautiful and always treated her like a queen. Finn is the money man for the Five Points, but that doesn’t mean he has never done wetwork before. He had to earn his way up somehow right? As soon as he saw Aiofe, he was in deep. Once he had her, he knew he could never let her go. And we love that in a man. A man who appreciates what he has in front of him. One thing I love so much is that the men in this universe realize how amazing these women are. You will see this quote often: “Why go out for hamburgers when I have steak at home?” Now does this mean the men are perfect? No, but when they are dumb they realize it. And we love that too, it’s great to be self aware.

This book really sets the foundation for the series and introduces you to the O’Donnellys and the Five Points world. So many things stem from this book and I absolutely loved it. There is a bit more romance than action in this book, but I love it. The start of secrets within the O’Donnellys begins with this book and you will see more things play out throughout the series. Stick with it, it’s a wild ride but oh so worth it.

This book started my love for this series and this universe.
