Wally Lamb is one of my favourite writers but this book didn't work for me. There were some funny moments toward the end. But most of the time, I found myself wishin' and hopin' something would happen to make me want to turn the pages.

A really fun Christmasy book! I loved the format and the characters were so vivid - and fun! Definitely a great read, although I'm glad I went to public school - no pinching!

Hopefully this is the mind candy I need for my trip to the Mayan Rivera....

Super disappointed... not the quality Wally Lamb I have grown to love.

Meh. Read it pretty fast, but still couldn't get through it fast enough. Lamb can do better than this. It sounded like an attempt at a silly holiday memoir/nostalgia piece, although it was fiction. I didn't love it, and thought most of the characters were not very believable.

I love Wally Lamb and he didn't disappoint with this book. He captured the times perfectly and gave a depiction of being a pre teen in the early 60's that was right on.

Audible version: I found this one to be a huge bore. While a lot of it was familiar to me as I was born in ‘68, though I wasn’t Catholic - kids were about as asinine then as when I was growing up - I didn’t feel any nostalgia nor did I long to return to those days. This was just your basic Catholic school kid story and I’ve read enough of those to last a lifetime. I won’t be making this a part of my Christmas listening tradition.

Cute Christmas tale in the vein of A Christmas Story. This centers around the fictional character of Felix Funicello (supposed cousin of Annette Funicello) a fifth grader at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parochial school. Felix has to contend with the school snob, a new student who happens to be a hot and sassy Russian girl, and his best friend who is going through puberty. The class is assigned a major part in the school Christmas program and shenanigans ensue leading up to the big night.

Very funny read that I thought was at times laugh out loud funny. It wasn't as "Christmassy" as I expected, but was still a great read for the holidays!

I grabbed this book a while ago and finally got a chance to read it. It was so good and a really fun read! Felix Funicello is in fifth grade in the 1960s and he goes to Catholic school. It's really just his experiences in the fall and winter of the school year. It's cute, funny and told by Felix which adds so much to the story. He's naïve a often finds himself in a hard-spot by saying the wrong thing. Also, he's Annette's cousin, who at that time was the biggest name in Hollywood. If you haven't I would definitely pick this one up. Enjoy!
