Paragon: “Be content with your own life, my friend, and live it well. Let others decide for themselves what path they will follow.” 

Amber: “Even when you see, with absolute clarity, that it is wrong for them? That they hurt themselves?” 

Paragon: “Perhaps people have a right to their pain. Perhaps they even need it.”

This was an amazing book and an amazing conclusion to the trilogy. There was one major traumatizing scene that I was totally unprepared for and ended up distressing me the whole day. So check the trigger warnings! Nevertheless, one of my favorite books this year, and my third 5-star book of the year too! (One other being also in the Realm of the Elderlings...)

So many loose ends were tied together so well. And such stunning character development throughout the series. Extremely well done

This book was my favourite out of the series. But on a whole the series itself is now one of my top. The characters in this are complicated and realistic, they make mistakes and it's easy to see where they went wrong. I loved the premise of this series, the soft magic systems and the reveals were shocking as well as intricate. This is my first few books I have picked up by Robin Hobb and she is definitely now one of my favourite authors. I definitely plan on reading more and will even pick this beast of a series back up one day.
