Unfortunately I never finished this before having to return it to the library. It's not easily-digestible and I'd need my own copy to fully absorb the wisdom of Iyengar.

Such a gorgeous and thought provoking book. It really motivates me to stay consistent in my practice. However, some of the later chapters got very esoteric and were hard for me to understand.

I've been a "yogi" for some years now and this book was just perfect 70% through. I'm sure the other 30% is too. Iyengar is a master. An example. I kept highlighting parts of the book and wishing my level of conscience could one day be at even 5% compared to BK Iyengar. As a yogi who is looking for the holistic experience and not just to sweat while bending like a pretzel I appreciate all he has to say.

He however lost me at the end. I'm just not there yet.

I strive for samadhi, but I'm still just trying to not do bad and (sometimes) do good. Easier said than done.

I will be using this book as a reference (just like light in yoga) and hope one day I get it.

I have read this book three or four times before. I listened to it read by Patricia Walden. I remember listening to it for the first when my first marriage was falling apart slowly and painfully. I was hiking to the top of Mt. Burdell, a trail I took from the high school in Novato, CA where I held my first teaching job. The book itself is so dense with spiritual material that I could listen to it 100 times and still take something away the 101 time. This book all those years ago helped me to crack open a mystery I’d been poking at for a while, a topic that obsessed me and that would become the cornerstone for my autobiographical novella, Hallelujah . I think I’m going to listen to it again next January.

This is an important text and I'm glad I read it. At times I struggled with Iyengar's writing style and thus, it took me a few weeks to get through the book.

Sooooooo much information to digest about the history and philosophy of yoga. I recommend reading in bite sized chunks and taking the time to let the information settle. I read this for a YTT and because I was on a time crunch, I think reading it so quickly spoiled the experience. Will likely come back to it later.
