loved it! super nostalgic to me since i read it in 6th grade. i even found writing in my copy from when i was 12 :)

i’m blown away by the fact that this book was written for elementary/middle school-aged kids, is so kid-appropriate, and has been so well-loved by kids in its target range since 2005, and yet is still so enjoyable to read from the point of view of an adult. riordan utilizes great creative writing techniques and does an amazing job drawing inspiration from greek epics and mythology and superimposing the characters and problems into today’s world. not to mention, i love the characters he creates and i had completely forgotten-or maybe not even noticed as a kid-that percy is a relatively full character with an actual personality that i like and enjoy reading from the point of view of.

I wish I had these books as a pre-teen/teen. This YA series would have hooked me with the adventure and Greek lore.

It still does as an adult, but you definitely feel the lack of character development, emotional connections, how most of the plot feels a bit rushed, and how easy it is to predict the twists.

It still creates a lighthearted adventure full of magic, wild turns, and old Greek god themes and weapons in a modern setting. Highly recommend ✨
