I was sold upon first hearing about this book. It's an historical fiction story, but packed with action and mildly sexy scenes. It is also heartbreaking, inspiring and enlightening. The story follows a disjointed timeline, which made for some abrupt transitions. But there were a few places where the pace was slow I was worried about staying interested enough to finish. But keep going, because it really is a good read!

This book is sooooo good! It was beyond my expectations. Quinn knows how to write dialog, and to keep a good pace in the separate storylines which eventually merge. I wiil be reading the next two books in the series.

This book was the perfect storm- compelling characters, both likable and not, drama, historical relevance, all packaged with a great storyline. I never felt that the pacing was slow, in fact I was constantly trying to find time to read more.

I also enjoyed the various view points of all the characters, and felt like I learned a lot about the culture of the upper class within ancient rome.
