really fun, light read that's about something, not just a fluff romance. Keeps you very entertained and engaged the whol time. It's in 2nd person POV where the narrator is talking to the reader, so that may throw some people off, but I really enjoyed it. Definitely recommend listening to the audiobook version as it's someone talking to you so it makes it more enjoyable to listen to it. Great chill murder mystery/ family drama book.

I LOVE a whodunit, they truly never get old and if you think they do, you suck. I loved the way this book was broken up, the rules, the humor, everything. The nods to true crime (cough cough jonbenet) were great. Best part was that this book was not scary in the slightest.

A truly dysfunctional family with their fair share of drama and skeletons in the closet.
There’s no one thing that kept me from loving this book, I think it was just a little too convoluted and “wtf is even happening”  for my taste. I set it down about halfway through and read an entirely different 5-book series before coming back to it. The plot was interesting and the mystery intrigued me enough that I came back to finish it.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I really enjoyed it! It was an intriguing, funny yet tense, clever whodunnit mystery that had me mostly guessing until the end. There were so many stereotypical mystery novels directions the author could have taken the story so it was nice not being able to figure out every single twist and turn. The characters were all interesting, some loveable, others not.

If you listen to the audiobook, it's one to pay attention to, not simply have on in the background. It's fast-paced spanning over only a couple days, with several flashbacks and lots of characters, so it's easy to lose which character is talking or being talked about if you're not fully focused. The narration was done really well and who doesn't like listening to someone with an Australian accent?!

If you like mysteries that are light on suspense, and have a bit of humor mixed in, this is a great read/listen that I definitely recommend!

Twist after twist after beautiful twist! Benjamin Stevenson does an awesome job subverting your expectations even when setting all the pieces up in front of you. There were a few shocking moments that made me pause and laugh in surprise. The misdirection is fantastic.
I’m used to reading more fantasy/sci-fi fiction, so it took a few chapters for me to really get into it, but once it roped me in it was hard to put down! I really enjoyed the meta writing. If there’s one nitpick I have, it was how Ernest, who had stated to be not much of a detective, completely nailed all the motives and the truth in the end, with some of his deductions being guesswork that happens to be correct. Am I too hung up on this though? No. This was a good ass book, and I am very eager to read the next one. The back of the book says it will be turned into an HBO series too, so I’ll have to watch that.
One final thought, a thank you to the author for suggesting the reader to pick up more Aussie crime fiction in the Acknowledgements section. I am DEFINITELY going to do that. Would’ve liked a few suggested authors though lmao.
