How Leigh Sales won a Walkley for Any Ordinary Day over this I will never understand. It’s a very hard book to read but a harder book to ignore (and damn it must have been hard to write). We have a huge problem with domestic abuse in this country – it’s a national emergency and Jess Hill has done the work to show us what the abuse looks like in its various and chilling forms and what we can do about it. Essential reading

Reading this book made my blood boil. We have a serious epidemic in Australia with domestic abuse. This was an insightful and harrowing read. I would encourage anyone to read this book but proceed with caution because it has very HEAVY and GRAPHIC content (I can’t stress that enough) about domestic abuse stories which is heartbreaking and enraging.
But please note this book ends with an encouraging and hopeful note.
Jess Hill definitely deserved the award she had won for this book.

I’ve read a max of 6 nonfiction books my entire life so there’s not much for me to compare this to but it’s still the best nonfiction book I’ve ever read
