I half-saw the end coming. A thought-provoking story about the quirks of social orders, death, and the passage of time, all common themes in Faulkner's writing. A Rose for Emily is a compact and concise example of Faulkner's skill with indirect storytelling and ideas that slowly dawn on the reader, to say nothing of his skill with prose.
