3.5 That went quick, I guess because it was that enjoyable. I still wished the characters were fleshed out a little more, like I care but not as much as I would like but their bond was top notch. Al is of course my fave, he's such a bloody disaster I dig.

Good story overall, but could have ended about a hundred pages sooner.

Quite basic writing but enjoyable story, very fast paced with some twists and turns. I would have appreciated some more character background or development of side characters and relationships explored.

Dangerous Remedy by Kat Dunn is a mixture of history and fantasy in one novel. Set with a backdrop of the French Revolution, a rag tag group of young people are saving people from being beheaded when suddenly they find themselves rescuing a girl with strange powers. They have to fight to keep her safe from both sides of the revolution as they hunt to find her.

I liked the idea of this book, but it didn't catch me. I found that the characters were introduced too fast with too many details about their pasts and I didn't really find myself attached to any particular characters. I also had to keep reminding myself who was who.

This book just wasn't for me.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC.

The start of this book was boring, as was, to be honest, the rest. The plot is somehow abundant while lacking (it seems to be a quantity above quality thing), and the main characters are mostly boring or annoying. I liked Ada well enough, and I could even get behind Al's cardboard cutout personality, but Guil felt like he was tacked on at the end and Camille was honestly one of the most annoying, self-righteous, and unintelligent characters I've ever read.

The ending of the book was better, however, and the next books seem more promising, so I might just peek into the second book and see if Cam gets less annoying.

while it wasn't "bad", it wasn't good either. Incredibly bland characters, in constant life-or-death situations that give no opportunity for the reader to emotionally connect to them, so we don't actually care. And the classic "horror movie" shtick of a bad guy getting killed only to keep coming back was beyond annoying. If it weren't for the context of the French Revolution, I'd slot this books writing for that of a 9 year old.

What good is being powerful if I will always be hunted for it?
