I love this book so incredibly much. It’s important to remember that you are never alone in your struggles. Someone has felt the same way you are feeling, even if they never admitted it to someone or themselves.

Top tier YA even after all these years

It was interesting reading this for the first time as an adult and reflecting on the themes and plot-points I couldn’t quite understand at 14

Specifically noticed what a beautiful reflection this is on masculinity 

Also 1) Logan Lerman really did nail it aaaand 2) I have to read Catcher in the Rye again now

There are several serious topics which are mentioned in the book, but they only get treated superficially. Most of the characters are in my opinion very flat and unlikeable. The author forces trauma on Sam to give her more depth, but the main character Charlie does not seem to care about her trauma and it is only a topic for one page, then the book moves on and never mentions her trauma again. Generell speaking, Sam is very poorly written and only seems to exists so the main character Charlie has a love interest. Some dialogues, like

Charlie telling Sam one day after meeting her that he dreamed about sleeping with her and she taking it as a compliment

were weird and irrational.

All in all I expected a lot from this book but got heavily disappointed due to poor writing and very unlikeable and flat characters.
