This book is very different from the film. The book is an internal dialogue that cannot quite be captured on film.
This book breaks your heart.. a sneak into a private mind a world we will ( hopefully) never know.
There are parts in this book I want to keep with me forever.

It's hard to describe the way this book affects you. It's amazing, heart-breaking, sad, scary, uplifting. One that I will read again because I don't think everything has sunk in as much as it should. The fact that you can read it so fast undermines the way in which it was written, one eye blink per letter at a time. I'm interested to see how the movie translates.

I watched the poignant and engrossing movie that was based on this memoir, and then I read the memoir. Both describe the post-stroke life of one with locked-in syndrome, a mind intact but disconnected from body. Both compel empathy and imagination as to what it would be like. Both give a glimpse of the feat that was the memoir’s creation. Both give perspective on the richness of consciousness. The movie is better, but there is much to the memoir.

I do wonder how much editorial assistance the memoir received. Autobiography or biography?

Learned that I really have no room to complain AT ALL about my life. If this wonderful gentleman can be so full of life with a body that doesn't work...I can at least make the most of what I have going.
