If I’d have to describe this book with one word it’d be real. Everything was realistic and raw in this story: the fantastic characters, their problems, and the solutions they’ve found together. There was no magic key, and it made their struggles that much more genuine, their HEA that much sweeter.
Carter is successful in his career and the sole guardian of his younger brother, but between taking care of the 10-year-old boy with special needs and working, he has no time left for dating. He takes one weekend every month for hookups but never sees the same guys twice. Gorgeous but shy Reed works in a bar, while enrolled in a post-graduate program at the same time. It’s quite an accomplishment given he has ADHD and battles with anxiety most days. After his only boyfriend left him brokenhearted, he swears off dating completely … yet he cannot say no to Carter’s sexy proposition of a one-night stand. Their chemistry is explosive so when Carter comes back a month later, Reed agrees for another night of fun with the confident man. It should not be serious; they shouldn’t want to spend time together outside of their monthly arrangement for sex … but the more they try to ignore that need the stronger it becomes. Carter is a wonderful character, and it was an absolute joy seeing him shedding his outside layer of hard shell. And Reed … I just wanted to wrap him into a huge hug and protect him from anything and everything. It was amazing to see how they learn to communicate honestly, how Reed started to stand up for himself, how Carter learned to slowly adjust his life for the better, and how both men learned to navigate this new relationship that wasn’t in their plans. This book also has several great side characters, and it made for a fascinating mix of encounters throughout the story. I cannot wait to read the next instalment in the series.

Nothing exasperates me more than characters that are unwilling to communicate, this book might be the top contender for this. About 85-90% of the book was spent with no real communication between the mc’s and then it was all wrapped up in such a sickly sweet way it was a tad cringe. Not the worst book by any means but it just wasn’t for me.

Bumped up to a solid four. I agree I still would have liked more family scenes but I have no idea what i meant by that there was too much sex because there was a perfect amount. Anyway, this book will always be a fave comfort read.

Old Review: 3.5 I just would have liked a few more fleshed out family scenes and less sex.

This book helped me get out of a reading slump. I found it mixed in with a few different newsletter books, and I randomly clicked on one one day, and it happened to be this book. I was drawn in immediately and wanted to continue reading, ignoring my work responsibilities. I found it hard to follow who was speaking sometimes as there are very little speech tags, but aside from that I loved the story. It's a common trope, but the representation of ADHD, anxiety, and delayed development are very important and I really connected with that.

***Audiobook Review***
The vocal performer was pretty good. He has a deep voice which I really liked and he put some good emotion into the performance.

I originally read this book about a year ago and I have to say that I really didn’t like Carter for about the first 60% of the book. Yes, I understand he’s a good guy for taking in his brother and getting him the help needs and loving him the way he should, but he was just such a jerk to Reed. I screamed at my kindle several times for Reed just to WALK AWAY! Listening to the book, I wasn’t as angry with Carter as I was when I read it and I’m not totally sure why. I do appreciate what Carter went through and his abandonment issues. The times when Carter let his guard down and was freely with Reed he was really sweet. By the end of the book, I was cheering for him.

Reed is a good guy who also has abandonment issues and self-esteem issues. It was nice to see him finally stand up to Carter. When he and Carter are uninhibited but their issues, they are really great together and their chemistry is off the charts. I love Reed’s relationship with his dad, especially after his mother treated him so badly.

I loved the last few chapters and the supporting cast – Reed’s dad, Vernon, Helen, Dr. Childs and of course, Jacks.

Overall this was a good listen/read that I’d recommend.

This is a sweet love story and I liked the way the author portraid thauma influencing our decisions and how we percive ourselfes. However, I felt like it got going on circles on the midle part and when they finally got onto a relashionship it was like they've just flipped a switch from never dated to 5-years-hapily-married. It felt rushed and badly proporcioned.

Super sweet love story. I'm a sucker for a man with a kid so I was in love with Carter from the beginning. Reed is the one with some issues and he is also the stronger of the two in my opinion. He knew when it was time to put his foot down and he was right! I also really liked that Reed and Jackson have a lot in common and Jackson will be able to turn to him for help. In the end this story was sweet and sexy with a perfect ending.

The narration was really good. New to me narrator but I will look for more.
