This book was reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy good. Better than I thought it would be. I liked the plot of an author who is kidnapped after having an accident. I was really surprised at how in the end, she had taken the idea of her bestselling books from someone - even if she didn't know she did so.

A weirdly offputting novel. Unsettling, but not in a good way. I guess I'm trying to say it just didn't feel believable.

An intense chiller, that owes a lot plot-wise to Stephen King's Misery - but does, at least, acknowledge it. See my full review here.

All you really need to know about this book is that it's basically the Stephen King novel Misery re-written for teens. Not mind-blowing, but extremely recommendable and suspenseful and tense. I can think of like ten teens who like suspenseful violent-ish thrillers who would LOVE THIS. And then want to read Misery for the grown up version :)

The book was alright, and a decent read, but almost all of the plot lines and "twists" we're blatantly obvious. Still, entertaining enough.

After years of constant torment and being called Skunky at school, Livvy Flynn could care less about the people around her. At 17 years old, she has already gained fame as an accomplished author of a New York Times best-selling book trilogy, visited 12 cities for a book tour, and negotiated a movie deal with Steven Spielberg. So, why waste time on people, especially delusional middle-aged wannabe writers? Relishing the fame and basking in glory would seem to be good reasons. On her way to a writer's retreat, Livvy wrecks her car in a remote, wooded area off the highway. As nearby witnesses arrive, she soon discovers that they have different intentions other than to rescue and assist her from the wrecked car. Just as she thought that her painful memories were behind her, a deranged woman and her wicked daughter decide to hold her captive for unknown reasons of revenge. Filled with suspense, plot twists, and a resourceful protagonist, this fast-paced mystery thriller will captivate the readers and have them wondering, just like Livvy, what she could have possibly done to deserve being imprisoned in a basement.

This book just did not hold my interest. I found Livvy to be a bit silly - sure, she's a major deal of an author and has sooo much money. When she's kidnapped, I expected to read about a struggle to survive. I found the story and the things she does silly and the reasoning behind Peg and her daughter's anger and frustration to be odd and not a compelling read.

You know when you read a book and your expectations are one thing, and then the book provides something completely from left field. That’s how The Detour was for me. While the left field book often works, The Detour did not work for me. I felt like the entire book was a satire and Boden was writing a lot of inside jokes for her friends and if you weren’t in that group the book really makes no sense.

The skeleton of the book makes sense. Olivia, or Livvy, is a worldwide best selling author; the author who everyone knows. On her way to a writing retreat she has an accident and the next thing she knows she has been kidnapped by a woman and her daughter. Olivia’s world quickly goes downhill and she has no idea what she did to deserve being kidnapped. Through use of flashbacks we see that Livvy did not have an easy life and was often made fun of and that is why she is the way she is. Sorry, just because you were once bullied doesn’t mean that you have the right to be a bully.

The Detour interested me from a publishing side of it. It showed the differences between a big named author who has everyone show up to their signing (Livvy needed ice for her signing wrist) and the author who tries everything and has three people show up to their signings. I’ve been to both. I’ve been to the signings where you wait for hours and to the signings where my BFF, Sarah and I have been the only people and every time my heart has gone out to both authors.

But besides a small part of the book, I lost interest in most of it. I was hoping for more from Boden and The Detour. That being said, I did read it in a day, and found it to be enjoyable.

The cover made me think that it would be reallly creepy, it was quite a short read. I did enjoy it, it was really fast paced and enjoyable, although i feel like it could have gone a little deeper

Good plot overall, i will read more from this author. I would recommend if you're looking for a easy, short read.
