The heart of this book is just so different from what the book actually is. It’s about Dannie finding the great lives of her life—and I’m not talking about either of the men that feature in this story. I honestly think that the book would’ve been better without either of them being in it. It’s about growing older and growing up. It’s about love, and the unexpected places we find it. It’s about passion. And the completely whack premise of one hour of time travel ruins all of that. I spent the first half of the book waiting for something bad to happen, and the second half getting angrier and angrier at the idea that the author was really going to follow through with the whole crazy thing. It’s not just implausible—it’s laughable. There wasn’t enough work done to set up the ending. And speaking of bad writing, this book is the epitome of telling not showing. I found it hard to engage with that kind of writing. This idea had a lot of potential, but I think it was just not executed very well. I actually feel a little angry about it because it could’ve been a book that I absolutely loved.

A really great book, but the ending was not my favorite. I thought it was going to be a rom com, or at least a romance/drama, but the romance aspect was really more between two besties (still ended up loving them though). But even though we knew it was coming,
I still hated the Aaron hook up because I was rooting so hard for Bella and Aaron from the get-go. I was really hoping for a shocking twist, like Dannie got into a horrible accident and ended up being an organ donor for Bella, and her flash forward was actually into Bella’s POV as she was living and healthy.
I really really wanted the ending to go differently. But otherwise, I loved this book, and it was so sad and beautiful.

"This is a love story...but not the love story you're expecting" and it really was.

In Five Years is the story of Dannie Kohan who appears to have it all sorted with her life. She has the perfect fiancé, David, an investment fund manager, the perfect apartment, in New York City, the wonderful, yet flighty best friend, Bella, and the perfect job, as a corporate lawyer at a top firm. But does having it all mean that she is truly happy? Soon tragedy strikes and it is about to test the boundaries of her friendship, engagement and outlook on life.

This novel is an emotional read and really pulls at the heartstrings. It will make you laugh and cry, in equal measure.

A great, heartbreaking read. I liked the twist and where the story lead to. A different take on a love story, but a heartfelt love story nonetheless.

This wasn't my cup of tea. Easy to read and a somewhat engaging plot, but I hated all the characters. Dannie was obnoxious, selfish and a terrible friend. I had no personal investment in her outcome and felt emotionally unattached to the story as a whole. I appreciate what the author was attempting and this led to some interesting discussion, (I read this for a book club) but I think the author was trying too hard to do something 'different'. I respect the conclusion and can see how others might really enjoy this, but it's a pass for me.

I had to read this in one sitting because I needed all the information. I loved this book.
I always love a non-romantic love story, and I am heartbroken for Dannie.
