Usually visitors to the Nowhere Emporium experience a night of wonders beyond their imaginations but don't remember it the next day. But orphan Daniel Holmes is different, not only does he remember but he seems gifted enough to create wonders of his own. So he is apprenticed to the owner, Mr. Silver and starts to learn how it all works. But when Mr. Silver disappears and the Nowhere Emporium starts to deteriorate Daniel must figure out who to trust and how to save what he has come to love.

I enjoyed this quite a bit - a dazzling setting, a bit of a mystery and intrigue, and fun characters.

A generous four star rating for a book which I would have enjoyed a lot more if I was 9-11 years old. Nevertheless, the cosy and highly imaginative setting and the complex plot was enough to keep me reading, despite being maybe a little too old to truly appreciate the wonders if the Emporium.

This is the second book this year that I’ve listened to & I loved it!! This story would have enchanted me even without the perfect narration, but the combination meant I fell in love. I forever wanted to get back to listening to the book & enjoyed every minute. The author & narrator get a 10/10 from me.

Hi everyone! Today I’m back with a book review for a glorious middle grade book I read recently. Full disclosure, I was already pre-disposed to like this book after it was recommended and bought for me by my lovely sister @chrissireads, I trust her opinion completely and she knows me quite well by now

The Nowhere Emporium was a book I chose on my never ending hunt to replicate the feeling The Night Circus gave me. I really liked it! There were several similarities between The Night Circus and The Nowhere Emporium; magical challenge, using a book to create magical rooms, having a person tied to the magic of the magical place, and I'm sure there are some I am not thinking of. Even though it was middle grade it didn't decrease my enjoyment of the book. I am glad this is the 1st of a series and am looking forward to more of the magic in the next books. 4.5*

Detailed review to come. Enjoyable, though a knock off of The Night Circus in every way.

Finished ~ The Nowhere Emporium by Ross MacKenzie
Completed 03/28/15
4 of 5 stars
280 page Kindle book

I received this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

The Nowhere Emporium is a cute children's book about a magical store that moves around in both geographical locations and time. Daniel stumbled across the store while trying to run away from some bullies, and is drawn into it's magical world.

This book was quite cute, even though it tried really really really (times 100) had to be The Night Circus. It was most definitely NOT The Night Circus. It lacked the beautiful language and flow of the The Night Circus. But it tried very hard.

Everything about it drew inspiration from TNC. I could list dozens of ways, but don't want to take the time plus it'd be spoilers, but some include ~ the whole thing existing because the rooms are described in a book, it opens at night and closes at dawn, a winter room, a room for wishes, an older ageless bad guy and a hotel that is lodging for the performers, that moves around with the shop. If you have read The Night Circus, you'll understand these, and if not, well lets just say, is very similar, or the same.

The Nowhere Emporium lacks in the real world feel of The Night Circus, but still is a cute story. The characters are likable enough, though there's really not a whole lot of character building. The building itself, and the rooms within are really neat, but it leaves you wanting more. The rooms are described in just the briefest of ways before moving on.

I still did really enjoy the book. It was cute, and a light easy read. It's definitely more geared for kids, though some adult fans of Middle Grade books may enjoy it as well. What it lacks, it makes up for with charm, though I'd love to see it with a lot more detail, and a little less exact ripoffs from The Night Circus.

A very well designed world that sparkles with magic and joy. Mixes the genres of children and ya fantasy extremely well.
