As another review put it, this book is utterly horrific and yet I couldn't put it down. Mostly because it was short and I wanted to be done with it already, but also because the prose is well written even if the content of it is nauseating. I'm not shy of horror, but this was a step too far for me.

Hurricane Season is short but dense - long run-on sentences, no paragraphs, no quotation marks - an assault to the senses - brutal, vulgar - much like what the women in this Mexican town face at the hands of men.

Unfortunately, I admire the idea of this book much more than I enjoyed reading it.
