I love this. I hate that it ended, and my God will I miss this fascinating world, these beautiful characters, but I love this. It was a struggle to push myself to read it, because truth be told, I didn't feel ready to finish this story. But here I am, crying while I'm writing this. Still, 5/5 throughout the whole series, has joined my few all time favourites.

This was a satisfying conclusion to a series that I have really enjoyed. Although the plot was faultlessly planned and fast paced, I found that I liked this book slightly less than the other two in the trilogy because there was a lot more action and far less character-driven stuff. I would've liked more interactions between Evelyn and Sebastian in particular - in this book they mainly seemed to be exchanging Lord Byron jokes, and while I appreciate this I also miss the intensity of their relationship in the second book in particular.

These Vengeful Souls, the final book in Tarun Shanker and Kelly Zekas’s historical fantasy series, These Vicious Masks, is packed with action as Evelyn and company make one last stand against the nefarious Captain Goode. There’s an added wrinkle in this final book where the public has become aware of individuals with these amazing and dangerous abilities. Goode uses people’s fears to turn them against Sebastian in particular and the handful of allies he has left. Both Evelyn and Sebastian carry loads of guilt; Sebastian because his power was manipulated, resulting in ballroom full of dead people and Evelyn because she had a chance to stop it, but chose to save her sister. Evelyn wants to put an end to the war between Goode and those who no longer wish to be his pawns. Unfortunately, Evelyn is prone to rash decisions, driven by love and a need to protect those around. She often chooses to go in alone rather than put her friends in danger. Despite mistakes Evelyn makes in this one, I loved that she eventually got to a place where she learned to trust those around her to help her in taking down Goode. Seeing Evelyn and minor characters like Rose, Mr. Kent, Miss Chen, etc, come together and work as a team was really rewarding. It’s a testament to their development as characters. I feel like Sebastian never really got a moment to breath throughout this series and I really wanted this for him. It’s hard to blame him for brooding all the time when he never really had much to celebrate. I really wanted to see him get a handle of his powers and in general, I wanted to see more happy moments for all the characters, but that probably says more about my attachment to them than anything else. Overall, this has been a really enjoyable historical fantasy series that I’d recommend to fans of the genre.

This was a fun wrap up to the series. I liked finding out more about how the powers work. It was also fun to see the team try to fix their images among the British population.

fast paced fantasy adventure, but some really humorous parts.

“I’m not going to say go on without me,” Mr. Kent said as we stumbled backward. “I’d honestly prefer we all just died together.”

best ever "third wheel graciously bowing out" line:

“Oh look! Foliage!" Rose declared. "How fascinating. I will leave you two.”

I have to say, while I enjoyed this book, I didn't love it as much as I did the second one. But I still really liked it and I am quite satisfied with that end. I do recommend this series to everyone and anyone.

Well, overall I did think that it was a solid final book. Although there was a whole lot less of enjoyment here. I meant it.

The story behind with Evelyn and against Captain Goode. Who is one of the least charmistic villains since he barely makes an appearance, which unfortunately will have at least made this far more of a memorable book.

And the first person narration is just way way too limited, since we are only siding with Evelyn and I didn’t care for her as much as I did before, she is sensible, but not compelling as a main character now as before.

And yet, I don’t think the story delved deep into her psyche and the reason why she felt the way she did. It was superficial, but failed to really make it feel like an integral part of her. She doesn’t face it, neither does she end up growing from it.

It was the same. I think more could have been done to allow Evelyn more chance to grow, to really understand why she chose it. It felt like a quick book about action, superpowers, but never went any deeper than that into how it effected the characters.

Overall, solid in all ways but so hollow when it came to the core of the story and the characters.

Title: These Vengeful Souls
Author: Tarun Shanker
Series: (if any) These Vicious Masks book 3
Rating:5/5 stars
Format: Ebook

Why'd you pick this book? Jane Austen meets X-men! What more could you want? Plus, it's the thrilling conclusion

Summary: England, 1883. On the run with the grieving Sebastian Braddock, Evelyn wants two things: to be reunited with her friends, and to get revenge on the evil Captain Goode. Not only has he misused his and Sebastian’s powers to rack up a terrible death toll, but he's also completely destroyed any hope of Evelyn or her friends regaining the life they once knew.

Evelyn is determined to make Captain Goode pay for what he's done, but is her revenge worth risking the lives of Sebastian and her friends? Or is it better to flee the city and focus on staying alive? And with the Captain spreading lies about Sebastian in an attempt to flush them out of hiding and turn the populace against them, does she even have a choice at all?

Favorite and Least Favorite part: Evelyn's strength and sense of self is amazing to me. So often reading the protagonists get into something and I'm just like, I'd give up, and they don't and that so empowering. I love these books.

If you like this book you might like: These book are a league of their own, no lie. Check out the Stranje House series and also they Lynburn Legacy series for mystery and romance and just, really good books
